About this Course

The Certificate in Healthcare Support (QQI Level 5, Major Award) is the industry-standard qualification for aspiring Healthcare Assistants in the Republic of Ireland. To earn it, students must complete 8 modules chosen from a list specified by the national awards body, Quality and Qualifications Ireland (QQI).

This Course Is for You

If you are currently employed as a Healthcare Assistant in a private nursing home, healthcare agency, or any private healthcare organisation.

Requirements

Participants must be proficient in the English language. Additionally, you require access to a modern laptop or desktop computer with a strong internet connection, camera, and microphone. A smartphone and/or tablet are not sufficient for this course.

Participants can either pursue the complete Major Award or select specific modules. While certain modules are mandatory and standardized across all providers, others can vary depending on the provider’s discretion.

Our program consists of 8 modules covering essential areas:

  • Communication
  • Safety & Health at Work
  • Care Support
  • Care Skills
  • Care of the Older Person
  • Palliative Care Support
  • Infection Prevention and Control
  • Work Practice
Upon successful completion of the programme, learners receive a Certificate in Healthcare Support from QQI (Level 5, Major Award). Assessment details for each module can be found in the Programme Manual.
The programme is delivered online through live, interactive sessions held once a week, always at the same time, from 9 a.m. to 4 p.m., spanning a period of 6 to 7 months. Full attendance on all class days is mandatory, and each module typically lasts for an average of 4 weeks.
This comprehensive course provides a solid foundation in healthcare support, making it a valuable qualification for those entering or advancing in the field.

Modules may be booked individually. Eligible learners can choose to book the Care Skills & Care of the Older Person modules for €200 (members only, course duration 6 weeks). Further modules towards the Major Award can be booked for €100 each.
