Fully Funded Healthcare Training for Jobseekers
In addition to supporting businesses and those employed in the private healthcare sector in Ireland, LHP Skillnet also assist jobseekers seeking employment in the healthcare sector.
Skills Connect is designed in partnership with enterprise to enhance cross-sector employability and support people who have lost their jobs. It offers a suite of bespoke upskilling and training solutions, designed by enterprise, aimed at supporting re-entry into the workforce. Skills Connect offers free online training programmes and job placements to jobseekers looking for new jobs and careers. This valuable initiative offers individuals the opportunity to develop new skills or reskill, build confidence and access practical on-the-job training.
LHP Skillnet is one of the 24 Skillnet Networks who deliver programmes through the Skills Connect initiative. Maintaining a highly skilled workforce is essential for our national competitiveness. Skills Connect will help address challenges facing the Healthcare sector including Covid-19 by upskilling individuals to meet the staff demands and enabling nursing homes and home care organisations to address skills gaps and supporting the career development of people impacted by Covid-19.
As part of the Skills Connect initiative, LHP Skillnet delivers the Certificate in Healthcare Support programme at no cost to eligible jobseekers. This QQI Level 5 major award has become the industry-standard qualification for those wishing to be employed as Healthcare Assistants in the Republic of Ireland. According to the independent regulatory body HIQA, all staff employed by nursing homes or home-care organisations “must have the necessary skills, appropriate to their role, to provide care and support to residents and to coordinate care effectively with other organisations and professionals.” Our Certificate in Healthcare Support programme under the Skills Connect initiative helps bridge the gap in skilled workers that are desperately needed by nursing homes and home care organisations throughout the Republic of Ireland.
The programme has become very successful with over 800 jobseekers trained as Healthcare Assistants since 2018. This has had a significant impact on workforce availability to the healthcare sector in Ireland while also enabling many jobseekers to find a new and rewarding career.
Students on the programme study 8 modules from a list specified by the national awards body Quality and Qualifications Ireland (QQI). The programme is delivered online via live, interactive sessions. An essential component of the programme is a work placement as a Healthcare Assistant. Students are required to complete 300 hours of voluntary work placement in order to receive the Major Award certificate.
Courses commence a number of times throughout the year and demand for places often exceed availability. The next courses will commence in September and October 2022 and applications for places is now open. No fees apply for eligible jobseekers . This programme is 100% funded by Skillnet Ireland through their Skills Connect Initiative.
