Course Description

Aim

This course will provide the participant of a comprehensive suite of knowledge to ensure that the residents, and their preferences, are central to the service provided.

Content

This course incorporates the requirements relating to the provision of independent advocacy services as required by the HIQA Fundamentals of Advocacy resources (2023). Also incorporates the requirements of the HSE National Consent Policy (2022).

  • Regulatory requirements in relation to resident rights
  • Trends and analysis: HIQA findings in relation to resident rights
  • Roles and responsibilities in relation to resident rights
  • Resident Rights Charter
  • Application of the FREDA principles
  • Resident access to services and provision of care
  • Provision of service information to residents and their families
  • Resident consultation and participation in the service
  • Independent Advocacy and facilitating external services
  • Resident consent requirements
  • Required protection of civil, political, legal, and religious rights of residents
  • Protection of resident privacy and dignity
  • Staff education and training requirements in relation to resident rights
  • Ongoing monitoring and evaluation of resident rights processes

Workshop Delivery

The workshop will be presented via Zoom, with interactive sessions and workshops provided throughout. Training will run from 10 a.m. to 3:30 p.m. The workshop will be delivered by a senior member of HCI’s Quality and Safety Team.

RP/GM/RPR, PIC, Deputy PIC, CNM, Staff Nurse, HCA

Certification

Learners who successfully complete the workshop will be awarded a certificate of attendance from LHP Skillnet.

Fees

The subsidised cost of this workshop is €135 per learner for LHP Skillnet member companies. Non-members are welcome to book the workshop at the full price of €210.

To be eligible for the subsidised price you must be working in the private healthcare sector in Ireland. Otherwise the full price applies.
