Overview

The ICF- and EMCC-accredited Professional Diploma in Coaching and Mentoring is the most popular course delivered by Kingstown College. It features content which supports coaching and mentoring conversations for workplace performance, emotional intelligence, conflict, work-life balance and much more. This course can be taken as a stand-alone course to use as a leadership style, or as a stepping stone to accreditation with the International Coaching Federation (ICF) or the European Mentoring and Coaching Council (EMCC).

Note: This course is intended to satisfy the education requirements for accreditation with the ICF and the EMCC which requires an assessment based on the competencies of those accrediting bodies. With no additional requirements, participants will also be processed through the QQI Level 6 Award ‘Professional Coaching Practice and Ethics’.

Anyone who is interested in joining this course is welcome to attend our onboarding Q&A session via Zoom on Tuesday, 4th of May, 11 a.m.–12 p.m.

Aim

Participants can expect to complete this Professional Diploma with the theory and the practical ability to host a coaching or mentoring conversation. The balance of lecture style, practical breakouts, and course assignments ensure that graduates will confidently step forward into working with internal or external clients as well as their own teams. Upon successful completion of the course, participants will be fully aligned to the international competencies and ethics of the ICF and the EMCC.

Learning Outcomes

On completion of this course, participants will:

  • Be able to host a coaching or mentoring conversation in line with international best practice.
  • Understand how to create the initial agreement of how coach and client/mentor and mentee will work together.
  • Understand and develop the core competencies of ICF and EMCC which include listening and questioning skills, evoking awareness, managing the relationship, and selecting appropriate tools.
  • Know the key influencing factors on human decisions and actions, such as values, beliefs, and emotional intelligence.
  • Discover how coaching can positively influence the outcome of a conflict.
  • Have the knowledge of international best practice to align with, or influence, an overall coaching or mentoring culture in the organisation.
  • Confidently navigate the coaching or mentoring relationship from initial goal setting, enhanced self-awareness, resource identification and an action list to move forward.

Performance Evaluation

30-minute recorded coaching sessions between class participants.

Course Delivery

This is a live online classroom programme hosted on Zoom. Classes are held 10 a.m. to 4 p.m. Attendees are expected to fully participate in classes with camera on and microphone available to unmute. Breakouts, discussions, Q&A, and demonstrations are vital parts of the course delivery.

Evaluation, Assessment & Grading

In addition to the course classes, participants will have the following course work which is distributed over the course timeline.

Peer Coaching

8 x 60-minute coaching sessions to be completed between Modules 2 and 3; 4 sessions in the role of the coach, and 4 in the role of being coached. These sessions are with other course participants. Logs are competed after these sessions.

External Client Coaching

4 x 60-minute coaching sessions to be completed between Modules 4 and 6, with one client who is not on the course. Logs are completed after these sessions.

Required Reading

One book and one journal article which are presented by the participant at the learning review. A list of recommended texts is provided at the start of the course.

Reflective Essay

One 5,000-word essay which will focus on your experience of the course, how you have developed the competencies, and your future plans for professional development.

Performance Evaluation

One 30-minute recorded coaching session, recorded on Zoom, facilitated by Kingstown College.

Learner support is available during business hours for assistance with assignments queries, class access, etc.

Who Should Attend

There are no academic requirements for entry to this course. Participants are expected to have a good level of professional English to host a coaching session, and to have a positive attitude for learning and collaborating in the classes.

Anyone interested in, or with a responsibility for hosting development conversations and future-focused conversations will benefit enormously from this course content and skills. Frontline staff interacting with patients or clients, managers leading a team, or senior leaders guiding the human resources of the organisation will all find useful tools and techniques to lead the workforce of today, and have future-focused, strengths-based conversations which help people move forward with actions.

Teaching This Course

Lecturers on this course are members of the Kingstown College senior team. They are experienced in delivering the accredited Diploma course as well as other coach/mentor training and have extensive coaching experience and awareness of the application of coaching and mentoring within organisations. Cohorts will be assigned one lecturer for the duration of the course so that they can monitor the progress of each participant and offer relevant feedback.

Certification

Professional Accreditation Pathway

Professional Diploma in Coaching and Mentoring accredited by the ICF (Level 2) and the EMCC at 160 education hours, satisfying the education requirements for up to PCC level with the ICF, and Practitioner Level with the EMCC. Please note this is a separate application process and requires practical experience before application.
