Course Description
The HeartSaver CPR AED course teaches you the basic techniques of cardiopulmonary resuscitation (CPR), how to use an Automated External Defibrillator (AED) and how to manage choking for adults and children.
This course is available for group booking only. It is not available for booking by individuals.
AIM
The course aims to equip the student with the key knowledge and skills to perform life saving techniques in an emergency situation.
LEARNING OUTCOMES
On completion of this programme, the student will be able to …
1. Describe how high-quality CPR improves survival
2. Explain the concepts of the Chain of Survival
3. Recognise when someone needs CPR
4. Perform high-quality CPR for an adult
5. Describe how to perform CPR with help from other bystanders
6. Give effective breaths by using mouth-to-mouth or a mask
7. Demonstrate how to use an AED on an adult
8. Describe when and how to help a choking adult or child
CONTENT
The course includes:
- Adult CPR
- Child CPR
- Use of Face Mask Barrier Devices
- Adult Choking - Conscious and Unconscious
- Child Choking - Conscious and Unconscious
- Safe and effective use of an Automated External Defibrillator (AED)
- Special considerations when using an Automated External Defibrillator (AED)
DELIVERY
The course is delivered on-site for one half-day. The course can be delivered on any date, subject to availability of instructors. There is a maximum of six students per group for this course.
ASSESSMENT
Students must pass the Adult CPR and AED Skills Test.
WHO SHOULD ATTEND
The course is primarily aimed at non-acute healthcare staff such as Healthcare Assistants.
ENTRY CRITERIA
Students must be currently employed in the private healthcare sector.
CERTIFICATION
Students who can demonstrate high quality CPR at the end of the course will receive an IHF/AHA Heartsaver AED course completion card which is valid for two years.
FEES
The cost of this course is subsidised for businesses in the private healthcare sector.
