The Engaging Activities programme trains nurses and healthcare assistants hands-on skills for delivering meaningful activities for residents. Everyone in the private healthcare context benefits from being shown how to choose activities which are stimulating and life enhancing for the older adult. This workshop aims to inform nurses and carers on how to connect and engage with older adults, using everyday materials and objects, to trigger memory evoke conversation and create fun. The trainers emphasise the importance of communication and teamwork in getting to know residents, and they teach the healthcare professional how to determine which activities will suit each resident best.
Due to the range of resources available to modern nursing homes, as well as the highly particular circumstances of the residents, you may also want to consider one of the Engaging Activities programme's specialised versions: for an emphasis on technology, click here; for an emphasis on song/music, click here; and for an emphasis on dementia or palliative care training, click here.
This workshop aims to facilitate the participants to gain an understanding of how knowing a person will allow them to select and suggest activities, which will be meaningful to their resident and offer choice. They will be able to source ideas for engagement, reminiscence, and social integration, and add support to their resident's needs.
