CHEWS is an educational paradigm based on the ‘Early Warning Scoring'' (EWS) systems used in modern hospitals. It is centred on the maxim of 'prevention rather than cure'. Leading Healthcare Providers Skillnet offers two kinds of CHEWS courses: one tailored to Nurses and one tailored to Healthcare Assistants. In either case, the CHEWS course aims to deliver ‘front line' training, encouraging healthcare professionals in their role to be more observant, improving their skills in spotting a sick or deteriorating resident and teaching the importance of proactive and harmonious communication with other team members.
Healthcare Assistants possibly spend the most time with residents/patients at the bedside and elsewhere, and this one-day programme aims to deliver to ‘front line' training, encouraging HCAs in their role to be more observant, improving their skills in spotting a sick or deteriorating resident and teaching the importance of proactive and harmonious communication with other team members, recognizing the vital part they play in caring for people in the community, but most importantly enabling them to play a greater part within the ‘care team', ensuring their contribution to safe and effective care is rewarded (both personally and professionally) and that they feel valued.
This course aims to develop the skills necessary to detect the signs of health-deterioration and sepsis in any resident.
