Course Aim:
- To develop a clearer understanding of the challenging behaviors associated with Cognitive Impairment or Dementia and the root emotions which lead to them.
- To review the relationship between carers, care workers and people with a Cognitive Impairment.
- To review environmental factors within your workplace that may influence the behaviours and stress of the older adult with Cognitive Impairment/ Dementia and the care worker.
Course Objectives and Learning Outcomes:
- To understand what it is like to be Cognitively Impaired or to have Dementia.
- An overview of mental health in the older person.
- To understand the Cognitive Decline Process.
- To establish understanding of the communications challenges associated with the area.
- To be aware of the nature of Challenging Behavior and the problems associated with it
- To be aware of professional issues and responsibilities in the assessment and management of such behavior
- To be able to make as accurate as possible an assessment of the risk associated with it.
- To be able to manage such risk, in the sense of having a safe framework in which to help the client
